Conducting an Online Meeting on the Review of the Nationally Determined Contribution Document of Afghanistan

The National Environmental Protection Agency held an online meeting to review the National Partnership Document, chaired by Engineer Ezatullah Siddiqi, Deputy Director in Technical affairs of NEPA, with the participation of representatives of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Agha Khan Institute for Housing and Consulting (ARUP) at Bande Amir Hall of NEPA.
In the beginning, Engineer Ezatullah Siddiqi, while appreciating the presence of the participants in ‎the meeting, said: The National Partnership Document is a national document in which the ‎commitments of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is to implement the goals of ‎the Paris Agreement the country's share of GHG reductions is about 13.6% compared to the ‎non-intervention scenario or as usual (BAU) by 2030 and diagnosis National priorities and adaptation ‎to climate change are included.‎
Mr. Siddiqi added: "According to the Paris Agreement, Afghanistan prepared the document in 2015 ‎and sent it to the UN Convention on Climate Change for the purpose of implementing the Paris ‎Agreement." However, due to technical gaps and requirements, the document needs to be ‎reconsidered to prepare plans for mitigation and adaptation to climate change. And to prepare an action plan to ‎implement this document, eliminate the gaps, develop Strategies, and combat the negative ‎effects of climate change sparingly and effectively.
During the meeting, the technical team of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) gave information about the project objectives and how to implement it. Agha Khan will be adapted for housing, which will be led and supervised by the National Environmental Protection Agency, and all activities will be carried out under the Under the supervision of the National Environmental Protection Agency. Later, Mr. Arvind, a representative of the Agha Khan Institute for Housing, provided information about the plan and how the project was being implemented regarding the revision of this document, and answered to the questions of participants.
At the end of the meeting, they decided that the action plan for the implementation of the ‎document and the roadmap for its implementation, a detailed report on the start of the project, ‎titles, and contents intended for the revision of this document will be sent to the National ‎Environmental Protection Agency for comment, reviewing and evaluating, to achieve a result.‎
