The Kabul Zoo hosted an exhibition of natural landscapes, wildlife, and national parks on June 23, as part of International Environment Week.
The exhibition and celebration were attended by Engineer Ezatullah Siddiqui, Professional Deputy Director of the National Environmental Protection Agency and his staff, Mohammad Rafi Qazizada, Director of Natural Resources, Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, Head of Kabul Zoo, University Lecturers, and the media reprsentatives.
At first, the Kabul Zoo's director stated that in addition to protecting animals, the Kabul Zoo breeds and trains endangered animals before releasing them back into the environment. He appealed for more community coordination and public awareness, and highlighted the need of working to safeguard ecosystems, forests, and animals.
Engineer Ezatullah Siddiqui, Professional Director of the National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA), spoke on the value of World Environment Day and the week, and briefed on the importance of ecosystems, natural landscapes, and animals. He also stated that the United Nations has dedicated a decade for ecosystem restoration.
Mr. Siddiqui highlighted the need of protecting natural landscapes, national parks, wildlife, and forests, and said that environmental protection is everyone's responsibility.
Mohammad Rafi Qazizada, Director General of Natural Resources at the Ministry of Agriculture, spoke as well, describing the environment as a major problem that impacts all sectors.
A photo exhibition of the country's natural beauty and animals closed the program.
It's important to note that World Environment Day was on June 5th, and the agency had planned a big celebration, as it had been in previous years. Due to the deadly corona epidemic, the day was not observed in the capital, but World Environment Day and Week were honored in numerous provinces with unique programs.
